The flat is rather small for a two-bedroom, and decorated like someone's mum tried to figure out what a teenage boy would want his room to look like.

"That's my brother's room," he says, shutting the door as they walk through it. "You don't want to look in there. It's... not good."

The fact that Travis even has a second dressing gown amuses Kale. But he'll put it on and tie it up with a straight and calm face.

"Better?"

"He's dressed, Nicholas," Travis says.

It still takes Nicholas a few moments to lower the newspaper, but he says nothing.

Travis turns his attention back to Kale. "Sorry about him," he says quietly. "I really did think he'd be gone today."

Travis gives him an apologetic smile and fishes out a few cans of lager from the back of the fridge.

"If you want to smoke, you'll have to do that on the balcony," he says.

Kale can probably guess that those are also the boss' orders.

"Nah, don't smoke. Mum would hang me up by my ears if I did."

He takes a can though and gives it a heft. "I can fix your game station though, if y'd like."

"Good," Nicholas says from his crossword. "It's a disgusting habit."

Travis ignores him. "Only if I can watch," he says in response to the remark about fixing the PS2.
